5-7 Days Road Tripping Through Florida

Want a fun road trip itinerary, but don’t have time to plan it? Here, we have put together a weeklong adventure to help you explore Florida. You’ll have the opportunity to see major attractions, including Key West, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Naples before heading back to Miami!

Half-Day in South Beach & Miami

While you’re in Miami picking up your campervan rental, don’t forget to see some of the local sites. If you’re a beachgoer, relax on the white sand at South Beach. After you’ve had enough sun, we recommend visiting Little Havana’s lively Calle Ocho or the eclectic neighborhood of Wynwood for lunch or dinner.

These detours might give you a late start on your trip, but you don’t have to spend all night driving to your next stop. You can set up camp at Larry and Penny Thompson State Park in Miami. There are also some campgrounds in Homestead to get you a little closer to the Keys.

2-3 Days in the Florida Keys

For your first full day, drive the rest of the way to the famous Florida Keys. You can’t miss the opportunity to drive the entire length of the keys. It only takes 2.5 hours to get to the Southern Most Continental Point in the US, so you can easily make it to Key West for some key lime pie.

Don’t drive straight through, though!

There are plenty of fun things to do and see, so slow down and enjoy the drive by stopping in Key Largo. This is a popular destination for scuba divers, so you should check that out before heading to Islamorada. There, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to a tropical resort complete with dolphin encounters, blue waters, and coral reefs. Finally, you can head on to Key West, where you can stroll down Duvall Street or tour Hemingway’s House.

2-3 Days in the Everglades, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Naples

In the second half of your trip, you’ll work your way north from the Keys. You can stop at Flamingo Campground first if you would like to get a taste of the Everglades. We suggest driving the Shark Valley Loop Road to see some alligators along the road. You can even take this road to your next destination.

You’re definitely going to want to visit Big Cypress National Preserve on this road trip. It’s another great spot for camping in the wilderness. You can explore the swamp with a ranger, by canoe, or a swamp buggy if you’re feeling extra adventurous!

For your last full day, we recommend driving to Naples and Sanibel Islands. Naples is home to high-end beaches, golf courses, and shopping. If that’s not your thing, you can at least check out the Naples Pier, where travelers frequently spot dolphins. On Sanibel Island, you can relax on beautiful beaches or visit the historic lighthouse.

Once you’ve had your fill of sand and sun, you can hop in your campervan and end your camping adventures at Ondevan Headquarters 🙁
